KAL-TEC Advisory Board Meeting Dec. 11, 2007

In the recent meeting, board members were pleased to learn of excellent participation numbers for 2007, varied course offerings for 2008, and success stories of class participants.

KAL-TEC is uniquely positioned to be a model for other communities. Elaine Wood, Deputy Director of the Northwest Michigan Council of Governments and Doug Luciani, President and CEO of Traverse City Area Chamber of Commerce announced plans for the sustainability of the KAL-TEC program through the revitalized Kalkaska Area Chamber of Commerce.

As of January 1, 2008, KAL-TEC's community outreach specialist, Annie Shetler, will begin "wearing two hats" as she will also serve as director of the Kalkaska Area Chamber of Commerce, which now has access to resources provided by its association with the Traverse City Chamber. KAL-TEC's future looks bright as the Kalkaska Chamber of Commerce transitions, over the next two years, to a more active role in the management and facilitation of KAL-TEC programming. Shetler, who has been with KAL-TEC since its inception, will ensure the smooth transition in her dual role with the Kalkaska Chamber of Commerce and KAL-TEC.
