Instructor Bios

Jim Bertoldi, B.B.A.-accounting, has over two decades of experience working in the area of public accounting and consulting.

Tamara Birgy, B.A.-english/education, is a JET Career Advisor for Kalkaska Michigan WORKS! Tamara received her degree with a minor in psychology from Northern Michigan University and earned continuing education credits through Grand Valley State University and Northwestern Michigan College.

Belinda Cook has been a Career Advisor with Michigan WORKS! since 1998. Her past human resource experience in the hospitality industry has also equipped Belinda to thoroughly understand the prospective and new employee process and present that to her clients. Belinda holds a Medical/Secretary Certificate and is currently pursuing a Human Service Degree from Baker College of Cadillac.

David Crawford, B.S.-accounting, B.S.-business management, is a computer applications instructor and an information technology applications trainer. He is a Microsoft Office Specialist who conducts and administers training, preparation, and testing activities for MOS candidates at NMC’s Microsoft-approved testing center.

Renee Cunningham, R.N., B.S.N.-nursing, has been employed with Kalkaska Memorial Health Center since 1989 and is currently the Director of Nursing at KMHC since July 2006. Having an extensive nursing background and working with the elderly, Renee approaches her classroom and clinical trainings with real-world understanding and experience. Her passion for her patients and family allows Renee to openly share her concern for others including her many C.N.A. students of the past and present.

Julie Doyal, B.A., has 12 years of teaching experience. She is a program coordinator for NMC-EES, and has provided computer resource assistance to individuals and groups.

Joe Dupuie, EMT-P, has been an American Heart Association instructor for 14 years and has extensive experience teaching people the life-saving skills of CPR and First Aid. He is a paramedic with the Kalkaska Emergency Unit and approaches teaching by bringing his real-world experience into the classroom. Joe has been an employee of the Kalkaska Memorial Health Center for over 16 years.

Bill Fagan, M.S.-secondary education, B.S.-electrical engineering, has been a high school physics, physical science, and technology instructor for 30+ years in Maryland. He was the head of the science department where he coordinated the science curriculum for K-12 and was Academic Technology Coordinator.

Keith Greenwald, B.S., M.A.-agriculture education, is a budget/housing coordinator with the Northwest Michigan Human Services Agency (NMHSA) - Petoskey location. Keith specializes in budget/credit counseling, foreclosure prevention, individual pre-purchase counseling, group financial management education, homeownership education, and post-purchase/home maintenance training workshops. He is a certified HUD counselor and has been certified through MSHDA to be a Links to Homeownership counselor. His background also includes being a Community Development Manager for the USDA Rural Development program instructor and also being a high school teacher.

Kayla Livingston, B.A., graduated from Michigan State University with a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and minors in Asian and Women Studies. Kayla worked in a substance abuse sub-acute detox unit and handled admissions into residential and outpatient treatment. She has been employed with Catholic Human Services, Inc. for seven years and currently serves as a Prevention Educator.

Jane McNabb, B.A., M.A.-English literature/organization management, has worked in the technology field for almost ten years as a technician, software trainer, and webmaster. She has taught several classes in Microsoft Office products and in general computer use. She currently works as Community Relations Coordinator for Northwest Michigan Council of Governments.

Randy Oliver brings to his workplace and classroom vast experience in human resource management, training and development, employment services, and supervisory management. In the past, Randy has instructed for Georgian College in Barrie, Ontario. He has also instructed and co-developed curriculum for the Certified Employment Counselor Certificate issued by the Government of Canada. Randy has been employed as a Work First Career Advisor for Kalkaska Michigan WORKS! since 2004.

Dawn Paulin B.A., M.B.A.-business administration, has been an adjunct instructor at Baker College of Cadillac for seven years. She teaches classes in the office administration area, keyboarding, and Microsoft Office Suite programs.

Mark Shaltz, M.A.-educational administration, B.S.-industrial education/building trades and woodworking, is a Career Advisor with Kalkaska Michigan WORKS! Mark has over 15 years experience both teaching and construction management. He is also a Licensed Residential Contractor.

Annie Shetler, B.A.S., M.B.A.-strategic management, has been the KAL•TEC Coordinator since January 2006 with the Northwest Michigan Council of Goverments (NWMCOG). She brings with her knowledge and experience with small business administration, operations, marketing, and education to her job as well as her family’s businesses. In addition to her duties at NWMCOG, she is the parttime President of the Greater Kalkaska Area Chamber of Commerce since January 2008.

Toni Wayda, B.A.-mathematics, has been teaching in adult education and GED preparation for 19 years. She is currently the instructor at the Michigan WORKS! Learning Lab in Kalkaska.

Chris Wendel, B.A.-economics, has worked in marketing and as a self-employed retailer for over 20 years. He is Regional Director for the Michigan Small Business & Technology Development Center in Northwest Michigan.

Heidi Yaple, M.A.-education, has been involved with federal, state, and foundation grant writing with regional nonprofits for several years. She is the full-time grant writer and grant compliance person for the Little Traverse Bay Bands of Odawa Indians in Harbor Springs, Michigan.
